Embrace The Change

'Tis the Season of Contemplation and Giving

Women can do hard things!

I know you have been showing up day after day, month after month, and year after year, as the nurturer, the house and home manager, the calendar keeper, the memory maker, the fretter, the putterer, and the one where the buck stops.  Sure, it's exhausting! But no more so now than in our 20's, 30's, and 40's.  Something has changed! We can find ourselves in midlife feeling less able to do all the things we have been training up to do.  Showing up and getting the job done should feel like autopilot after all these years, but for many of us, midlife feels more like an unraveling of our abilities, rather than a consolidation.

Just because The Change signals the end of our re-productive years, does not mean we are bound to feel less productive.  For many of us, we are ready to feel more productive!  Instead, we feel more tired, more in pain, more sensitive, irritable, sad, or angry.   We might feel like we are losing our minds, losing our muscles, losing our resilience.  Even sleeping can be hard work.

While life stressors may contribute to the changes we experience, The Change is potentially our biggest stressor.  Remember, we have been managing all of the stressors life has thrown at us for years.  Stress is not new to us!  But, The Change is new!  The Change is what has changed and we should be empowered to confront it with knowledge, grace, and humor, along with a little humility, and possibly a dash of defeat (We can't escape aging altogether.  If we are lucky, we get to succumb to some of the inevitable perils of growing old).

As we transition from a contemplative holiday of gratitude and enter a holiday of rejoicing, I invite you to consider gifting yourself the time and space to be intentional with the second act of your life.  Come join us in January for a day of learning, sharing, rejuvenating, and planning for the next several decades ahead.   Register for Embrace The Change - Women's Retreat in Norwich, Vermont.  You deserve it!
